Critical Mess

Damian Goddard has acknowledged the problem with video filmed in a Catholic Church and for that, he needs to be commended.

The devoutness or talent of the artist was never in question. The issue has always been the filming of a secular music video for business purposes and personal gain in a Catholic Church. The clothing was not appropriate for a church and if the performer were wearing moccasins, leotards a tunic and mantilla, it would not change the fact that the video filming was inappropriate in a Catholic church. It is up to each of us to know what Holy Mother Church expects and to submit ourselves to that.

Evidence has been brought to light that the pastor at the time gave no permission for the filming of this video despite protestations to the contrary, nor was the Blessed Sacrament removed before the church was turned into a music hall.

Damian has removed the video from www.damiangoddard.com and has issued a blog post on the matter; however, it remains on YouTube due to the uploading of it by David Wang, the manager and father of the performer. The responsibility now lies with Wang, a Professor of Engineering at the University of Waterloo. The facts are clear, the video does not fall within that permitted under Canon Law and it goes contrary to the Protocol of the CDWDS and it was done without the knowledge of the parish priest or the permission of the bishop; nor was the Blessed Sacrament removed from the tabernacle. Of this, we have direct corroboration.

It is time for Professor David Wang, a former columnist in the Catholic Register, and leader of the band Critical Mass to do the right thing.
