There is updated information this morning regarding the post Ignition Sequence Fail. If you are not familiar with the matter, the video was a secular song, produced and sung in a Catholic Church without following the canonical norms for concerts; it was also described by the producer as a "business venture." The Church was used for a private business venture and promotion of an artist, hardly in keeping with the appropriate use of a Catholic Church. It was produced, managed, directed, filmed and performed by Catholics  who, given their education, experience and contacts within the broader catholic community, should have known better. The filming of the video was inconsistent with Canon Law and the Protocol from the curia department responsible which can be found at the above link. After private discussions and correspondence with those responsible yielded no adequate response, the facts were made public on this blog, notwithstanding that the video itself was and remains public on the webpage of the performer, producer and on YouTube.  The posting of the story caused a flurry of profanity and vulgarity against this writer, with a clear misunderstanding of the facts and the proper use of a Catholic Church. Private discussions with those responsible indicated that certain permissions were given and assurances that the Blessed Sacrament was in repose from the tabernacle were given. Notwithstanding these two matters, the filming of the video is the fundamental problem and was wrong regardless of the alleged permissions.

According to an editorial at Kitchener Waterloo Traditional Catholic and based upon an investigation, the facts have shown that it "was shot covertly." When interviewed by KWTC, the then pastor of the parish said that he "didn't know of its existence" in further discussion he was emphatic that he "did not give permission." In response to the insistence that the Bishop of Hamilton gave permission, as KWTC states, "it is not reasonable to think that the bishop gave permission without notifying the pastor. KWTC is also reporting that the Blessed Sacrament was not removed from the tabernacle. The producers has been advised of these findings and has not responded.

Based upon the facts addressed at KWTC, the Catholic laymen responsible for this filming must do the right thing; or else produce the permissions.
